          -Can Pilates help me release some weight?
      The Pilates for weight loss debate has been going on for a while now. I have read a few articles and reports saying that, since Pilates is a exercise program that uses muscles, it does burn calories but not much. Some sources have equated it to moderate stretching. At first I thought that they just have not taken a class from me (Patrick). One thing that I noticed though was that each report was assessing only Mat exercises. This info might be good if you are at a gym, and only have access to a Mat class, even though I still think it is a low guess.
     I was teaching today and I explained a lot of technique to my class. If you have taken a session from me you know that I tend to talk a bit, so you can understand how difficult it is for me to type everything out. If you have not yet taken a session from me or at CORE, one of my quips is that with each new student there is a minimum of 6 million words needed to be said to get you started for your sessions. Yes, it is an exaggeration, but Pilates is not just "Lift this weight. Now do it 10 times." Pilates is deep, mentally, and physically. This is where the mind body connection comes into play...
